Algol, or Beta Persei
An eclipsing binary, a pair of rotating stars
in the constellation Perseus, one of which
eclipses the other every 69 hours, causing
its brightness to drop by two thirds. The
brightness changes were first explained in
1782 by amateur astronomer John Goodricke
(1764-1786).
